As a fan of minimalist battlestations, I'm currently in the process of looking for a gaming controller that could double as my mouse.

That's why I was excited to learn that the Xbox One controller was going to get native drivers for Windows PC. I've used an Xbox 360 controller and was impressed with how little time it took from plugging in the 360 controller to the PC to playing games with it. Even with the differences between the two controllers (better d-pad, slimmer battery pack, textured joysticks, etc), it was reasonable to assume that the Xbox One controller was going to integrate itself fully into the Microsoft family.

Last year, Microsoft announced that they would release the drivers some time in 2014. Larry Hryb, director of Xbox programming, said, “Soon. Very soon.”

If you're impatient and don't want to wait on the drivers, there are a few hacks on YouTube that you can try. But I wouldn't recommend going down that route for everyone because it takes a bit of maneuvering and there isn't a guarantee that all the buttons are going to work.

Personally, I'll wait until the official drivers come out before buying a controller that will streamline my battlestation.
